Guys find your fit!

Mens denim fit

OK this one is for the guys....

Guys wear just as much denim as the ladies do. Whether you are a gentleman that loves to shop or to the lady that likes to shop for her man., jeans are an essential part of every man's wardrobe. In fact, apparently the average male owns at least seven pairs of jeans, because men's jeans are such a staple clothing. Unfortunately, finding jeans that fit your style, size and price range can be challenging.
Just as I did with the ladies, I have classified below the type of denim style and who should wear them.

Bootcut - Bootcut jeans are a good cut for any guy hoping to look fashionable without looking extreme. This slim cut fits closely (but not tightly) with a slight flare towards the leg opening. Bootcut jeans make sense for most body shapes, because they balance the body well. Please make sure the slight flare does not look over flared on you if you have a small waist, you may look like you coming out of a western film.

Relaxed fit - Relaxed-fit jeans are loosely cut from waist to leg opening. They are great for heavier tall men. The roomier shape of these jeans won't accentuate curves and bulges like other cuts will. Thin guys should avoid relaxed-fit jeans, as this cut can look loose and sloppy on skinny legs.

Skinny - Skinny jeans are a risky bet for many guys, but they have the potential to look stylish on the right guy.  My boyfriend’s brother pulls it off pretty well. He has a small frame with height as
“The skinny jeans club” is fairly exclusive. This ultra-tight fitting cut can make an average-to-heavy body types look even larger. This cut should be kept for the shlanky body shape, which allows skinny jeans to flatter a thin figure.

Slim fit - For those who want the hipster style of skinny jeans but don't make the cut weight-wise; there are slim-fit jeans. This cut of jean is tapered in a similar style to skinny jeans but not to the form-fitting extreme. With slim-fit jeans, you get the best of both worlds: fashion-forward looks and comfort.

Straight cut - Straight-leg jeans are the most discreet cut you'll find. Neither tapered nor overly loose, this traditional style is ideal for those who want their jeans to be simple and classic. This would be my favourite cut for guys, it hangs well and is not too wide on the legs.

Low-rise - Low-rise jeans have the smallest space between crotch and waist. This rise of jeans generally sits a few centimetres below the belly button, so make sure to wear a shirt of appropriate length to avoid exposing your midsection or your Plummer crack. Also keep in mind that low-rise jeans tend to fit tightly around the belly area, which may not be comfortable if you have a curvy stomach. But if you have a six pack this rise will look good on you :)

Medium-rise - If you don't feel comfortable in the hip-hugging scoop of low-rise jeans but want to maintain a trendy look, maybe think about medium-rise jeans. The room between waist and crotch on medium-rise jeans isn't small, but it doesn't extend to the rib cage, either.

High-waisted - High-waisted jeans are a terrific choice for heavier men with fuller stomachs or beer boops. The rise is enough to conceal the extra beer bags that would be exposed in low- and medium-rise jeans.

Denim tips to remember:

  • Come on guys do the thing that probably drives you mad when your wife or girlfriend does it often, spend some time at the mall, try on lots of different styles. You wouldn't buy a television without watching it first.
  • Find your length, loose jeans that clean the pavement will certainly lose their structure at the hem, looking messy.
  • Men's jeans are measured by waist size and inseam size. To find your proper size, measure your waist, and this will be the first number on the tag. Then measure your inseam and this will be the second number on the tag. (Ex. 34x34 or 35x32)

How to care for your denim through the washing process

  • Wash your jeans inside out to maintain the colour and use a gentle cycle on your washing machine; some brands recommend a cold wash, so check the care label first.
  • When drying your jeans, make sure you check first to see if they can be tumble dried as this could shrink them. If not, it's best to dry them away from sunlight as this can fade your denim.
  •  The dye in dark washes can transfer onto light fabrics so wash them before wearing for the first time.
  • If your jeans need turning up, make sure you wash them before hemming. This will put the denim through any initial shrinking before you take any off the bottom.
